Ember, Colours and iCloud Sync
· Nik
With today’s launch of OS X Mavericks, we’re thrilled to announce a big update to Ember with some hotly-requested features.
Colours
Ember now analyses your library, figures out the primary colour in each image, and allows you to use natural language to find images in your library. You can try it for yourself in the latest Ember demo: just enter a colour like “Dark Blue” or “Light Green”. You can also use colours in your rules for Smart Collections.

iCloud Sync
Ember v1.2 also allows you to store your Ember library in iCloud, and sync it between any Mac you use. We recommend that you read our Ember + iCloud guide before moving your library to iCloud!
As iCloud is only available to apps that you download from the App Store, we’re not able to offer iCloud in the Ember demo - however you will be asked if you’d like to move your library to iCloud after purchasing Ember on the Mac App Store.
Quickly Share Images using iCloud
We’ve also added a brand-new sharing service to Ember: iCloud sharing. It’s a great way to quickly share a download link for any image in your library. Just make sure you’ve got an iCloud account set up in System Preferences, and use the Sharing options in Ember. Your Ember library doesn’t need to be stored in iCloud to use this feature, either!
Ember v1.2 Requires OS X Mavericks
We want you to be able to advantage of the latest and greatest OS X technologies, and several changes and features in Ember v1.2 simply wouldn’t be possible without OS X Mavericks. This means that, starting with Ember v1.2, Ember requires OS X Mavericks. It goes without saying that we’ve optimised Ember for all the great energy-saving technologies found in OS X Mavericks, such as App Nap - and best of all, Mavericks is available now for free!
That’s All for Now
We’ve got lots more in store for Ember, but for now we hope you’ll try Ember for yourself and pick up a copy on the Mac App Store
