RapidWeaver Elements vs Webflow
A Webflow alternative for Mac that builds on your computer and publishes to any host.
RapidWeaver Elements is a website builder for Mac: you design on your Mac, even offline, and publish clean HTML and CSS to any web host. Webflow is a website builder you use in a browser, with hosting, a CMS and advanced interactions in a monthly or yearly plan for each site.
Which is best for you?
Choose RapidWeaver Elements if…
- You want to build on your Mac, including when you’re offline.
- You want to choose your own hosting, or already pay for it.
- You want one licence for every site you build, not a plan for each one.
- You want to export the whole site, with no extra plan to pay for.
Choose Webflow if…
- You want hosting, the builder and a CDN from one company, with nothing to manage.
- A team needs to work on the same site at once, from any computer.
- You want advanced interactions and animations without writing code.
- You need a large CMS, localised pages or a store with its own checkout.

What each costs in the first year
Webflow includes hosting for one site. RapidWeaver Elements leaves the choice of host to you.
-
RapidWeaver Elements Base
$99 + your hosting
Bought once, for up to three Macs, with a year of updates included. After that, renewing for more updates is optional: if you don’t, you keep the version you have. Build as many sites as you like and host each one wherever suits it.
-
Webflow Basic
$180 a year for one site
$15 a month billed yearly, or $25 month to month, with hosting but no CMS. Premium, which adds the CMS, is $300 a year. Each site needs its own plan, and exporting code needs a Workspace plan as well, from $16 a month.
Publish to any host, not just Webflow
A Webflow site runs on Webflow’s hosting, with no way to publish it to another host over FTP. RapidWeaver Elements publishes to any web host over FTP, SFTP or FTPS, or to Amazon S3, and Smart Publishing uploads only the files that changed. You can move host whenever you like. If you’d rather not choose, Realmac Hosting is one option, from the team behind RapidWeaver.
Build websites offline on your Mac
Webflow’s Designer runs in a browser, so you need a connection to work on your site. RapidWeaver Elements is a Mac app and saves projects on your Mac, so you can design and edit anywhere. You only need to be online to publish, back up to Elements Cloud or use online AI tools.
One licence for every site you build
Webflow charges a Site plan for each site, and exporting code needs a Workspace plan on top. A RapidWeaver Elements licence covers as many sites as you like, on up to three Macs, and exporting is part of the app. You pay for hosting separately, wherever suits each site.
Clean code you can take anywhere
RapidWeaver Elements writes semantic HTML styled with Tailwind CSS, with Alpine.js for interactive parts, and there’s nothing proprietary to run on your server. The whole site exports to a folder on your Mac. Webflow’s code export leaves out CMS content, so a blog or collection pages don’t come with it.

Moving from Webflow to RapidWeaver Elements
With a paid Workspace plan, Webflow exports your static pages as HTML and CSS, but not your CMS content. Plan to rebuild the design in RapidWeaver Elements, often starting from a template, then bring your copy, images and posts across.
- 1Save your copy and CMS content, and download your images before you cancel Webflow.
- 2Download RapidWeaver Elements and start from a template or a blank project.
- 3Rebuild your pages with components, and add your blog posts to the CMS.
- 4Publish to your new host, then point your domain at it.
RapidWeaver Elements vs Webflow questions
Choosing
Yes, if you’d rather build on your Mac and choose your own hosting. RapidWeaver Elements is a Mac app that publishes clean HTML and CSS to any host, and one licence covers every site you build. Webflow is the better pick for teams that work in a browser, need advanced interactions, or want a large CMS or store run for them.

Switching
Partly. With a paid Workspace plan, Webflow exports static pages as HTML and CSS, but not CMS content. In RapidWeaver Elements you rebuild the design with components, often from a template, then bring your copy, images and posts across.
Only in part. Webflow’s code export needs a paid Workspace plan, and CMS content can’t be exported. A RapidWeaver Elements site exports in full to a folder on your Mac, and publishes to any host.
